A landing page checklist before you spend on ads

A landing page has a practical job: help the right visitor understand an offer and take a useful next step. Visual polish supports that job, but it cannot replace clear information. Use this checklist before launching an advertising campaign or increasing its budget.

Match the page to the promise

Read the ad and the first screen of the landing page together. They should refer to the same service, audience and next step. If an ad promises a product demonstration, the page should make the demonstration easy to understand and request. A generic agency introduction can force visitors to restart their search for information. Keep one primary action. Other useful routes can remain available, such as a telephone number or service detail link, but they should not compete equally with the campaign objective. Write button labels that describe the action rather than relying on vague instructions such as Submit or Click Here.

Answer buying questions in a useful order

Explain what the service includes, who it suits and what happens after an enquiry. Add practical limitations when they help a buyer choose correctly. Customers should not need to complete a form to discover basic information that your team could state on the page. Use proof that you can substantiate. Approved project examples, genuine customer feedback and clear process information are more useful than invented numbers. If there is no permission to publish a client result, show how the work is delivered and offer to discuss relevant experience privately.

Check the whole mobile journey

Open the page on a phone, not only in an editor preview. Read the headline, open the navigation, use every main button and complete the form. Look for clipped text, overlapping sticky elements and images that push important information too far down the page. Check spacing and alignment as a system. A left-aligned section should keep its heading, body and button on the same visual edge. Avoid layouts that depend on a precise desktop line break. Smaller screens need comfortable text sizes, usable controls and enough space between separate actions.

Keep the form proportionate

Ask for information the team will actually use to qualify or answer the enquiry. A basic service enquiry may need a name, contact detail and description of the requirement. An extensive project brief can be collected after the first conversation. Extra required fields create work for both the customer and your team. Test invalid and valid entries. Confirm that error messages identify the issue and that a successful submission produces a clear confirmation. Send a real test enquiry to the destination inbox and check replies. A success message on the website does not prove that the business received the email.

Check measurement and follow-up

Define which completed action should be recorded as a conversion. Loading a landing page, clicking a form button and successfully sending an enquiry are different events. Test the actual success condition and avoid counting the same action twice through overlapping implementations. Assign someone to review incoming enquiries and record their quality. Keep the original page version and note meaningful changes. After launch, compare the campaign promise, visitor questions and sales feedback. Improve the weakest part of that journey rather than changing colours simply because a campaign has not produced the expected outcome.

Bring a useful brief to the review

Record the current setup, the decision you need to make, who owns the next action and how completion will be checked. Keep business evidence separate from assumptions.

Questions before you begin

Yes. Test validation, success behaviour and delivery to the actual destination inbox or system. A button click or a visible confirmation message does not establish that the business received a usable enquiry.
